Protecting nuclear warheads from theft and accidental detonation is a top security priority for the United States. To enhance our arsenal's safety and security, the National Nuclear Security Administration is planning to add features to warheads and bombs as part of their life extension programs—but doing so would entail redesigning the weapons, which could have undesired outcomes. To discuss these and other issues, including cybersecurity, the Union of Concerned Scientists and the American Association for the Advancement of Science hosted a day-long workshop on December 12, 2012.
