Precious Tshabalala is an economist with the Food & Environment program at the Union of Concerned Scientists.
Prior to joining UCS, Dr. Tshabalala was a food systems specialist at Cornell University’s Cooperative Extension, where she was responsible for developing programming aimed at supporting minority and women-owned businesses. She also served as a graduate research team leader at Universiti Putra Malaysia, where she successfully led a team of research assistants and contributed to a project assessing the progress of agricultural transformation in Malaysia on a World Bank-funded project. Prior to that, she was an agricultural economist at the Agricultural Research Council in South Africa.
Dr. Tshabalala earned a BSc in agricultural economics from the University of Fort Hare (South Africa), an MS in agricultural economics from the University of Pretoria (South Africa), and a PhD in agricultural policy from Universiti Putra Malaysia (Malaysia).
